ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Services

TherapyWorks Neurodiversity is offering diagnostic and treatment services for
children, youth, and adults who are neurodivergent or who are seeking confirmation of a diagnosis. We are excited to offer a team based, collaborative assessment with our Nurse Practitioner and Registered Clinical Social Worker.  Our comprehensive services include an initial interview with a member of the assessment team, standardized assessment tools to determine the most appropriate diagnosis, treatment planning and short-term medical follow-up, which may involve medication recommendations and prescriptions if appropriate.

Following diagnosis, an ADHD coaching session is provided as the final step of the diagnostic services.  For clients interested in additional treatment, the TherapyWorks team can offer the following:

  • Counselling

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Executive Functioning Supports

  • Tutoring/ Educational Supports

  • Body doubling (completing tasks alongside a support person to assist with task completion and challenges with attention and concentration).

  • Life Skills

  • Employment and/or Educational Accommodations letters

  • Disability Tax Credit Applications

Our Approach

Your completed intake forms and assessment tools are reviewed prior to your visit.  You will meet with either the Nurse Practitioner or Registered Clinical Social Worker at the first visit. You will be provided with a lab requisition at the first visit.

Both team members have regulated diagnostic authority in BC. The team will review your file together to confirm a diagnosis.  The results visit will occur with the Nurse Practitioner, at which time, any associated medical treatment options will be reviewed, along with additional options for treatment.

The ADHD coaching session will be held with the Registered Clinical Social Worker.

ADHD Assessment Process

Our ADHD assessment process is thorough and designed to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Referral: Clients may be referred by a professional or may self-refer for an ADHD assessment.

  2. Information Collection: We gather basic demographic details to open your client or patient file.

  3. Assessment Package: An assessment package, including intake forms, is sent to you. If it is a child assessment, a Release of Information form will be included to gather assessment information from your child's teacher.

  4. Form Completion: You complete the forms online at your convenience, but within 5 days of your scheduled visit. .

  5. Initial Assessment: Your first assessment visit takes place and you are provided with a lab requisition. You may be requested to complete additional assessments, or have a close family member complete information.

  6. Review & Scoring: We score the assessment and review your file before your second visit.

  7. Follow-Up & Treatment Plan: During your second visit, we discuss the results and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. You will also receive a brief diagnostic report, which is shared with you through our electronic health record.

  8. Family ADHD Coaching Session:  You will meet with a Registered Clinical Social Worker to discuss ADHD strategies relevant to the ADHD traits discovered in your assessment.

For children, this is a family session to assist parents/ guardians to better understand their child's neurology and to review strategies that can be beneficial at home and in educational and other settings.

For adults, you are welcome to invite a significant other, family members or support persons to this session.

Pre-Visit Consultation for Neurodivergent Nurse Practitioner Services

With the exception of ADHD assessments, clients must book a free 15 minute  pre-visit consultation session with an intake coordinator or with the Clinical Director, before booking a first time visit with the Nurse Practitioner. The purpose of this visit is to confirm the reason for the visit and eligibility for services with the Nurse Practitioner, as well as exploring arrangements for ongoing medical care needs.
